Looking to nature for inspiration, our new showroom display in Studio City was designed around the idea of a quiet flowing waterfall, winning the 2009 NKBA Award as America A table-island with a raised, curvy entertainment sink provides the perfect setting for a British bachelor to watch movies with his buddies or enjoy a sitdown dinner. Designed for a Martha Stewart food stylist, the kitchen in this charming, century-old home was a space for the client to cook often, the kids to be entertained, and the husband to enjoy a morning coffee and catch up at the end of the day. With an open design and ergonomic solutions this kitchen does it all: prepare, cook, store and serve food; entertain with a fully equipped media center; desk area with computer; play room for a five-year-old; and to catch glimpses of the fireplace, the bar and the French doors opening to the large deck, peaking through multiple arches. Perched on a Malibu mountaintop rests the country farm of a Frenchman and his family, including chickens, goats, dogs and a big black pig! An extensive remodel created a warm space for interaction, to prepare food, bake and pickle fresh items from their garden while standing or sitting. "A blue kitchen, bold, with sharp contrasts" was what the client asked for. The cobalt blue thermofoil cabinetry sample mesmerized him; it was his first gutsy choice, and everything stemmed from that. The open floor plan transcends the ordinary rules, following the client
A curved café counter, standing proud of the rest of the kitchen, provides the favorite spot for a high-powered attorney on the go to enjoy breakfast while watching the news before heads off to a long day "Zen" was the key word given by the jet-set clients - their wish was a meditative shelter to ease into after their long, weekly flights. Adding a corner whirlpool tub breaks up a stiff symmetry, and also with a new steam shower invites the travelers to decompress. By reconfiguring two inadequate baths we gave our bachelor client a relaxing one-person master bath with spacious whirlpool tub and shower, and a separate, more private powder room. A professional music studio at home was the dream of our client, a leading Hollywood sound mixer. Careful selection of wood, carpet and fabric materials were essential to sound proofing and audio quality. A stately study captures the rich ambiance of Craftsman and Mission styles, extravant with rich details and even richer materials, including every modern convenience. A spa of my own – to relax and decompress was the request of the single, over-stressed Los Angelino artist for her new, in-progress house. An ardent lover of space and simple, monumental elements, she wanted the bathroom suite of her new house to bring forward soothing, "green" materials and evoke the outdoors. By condensing a powder room to a little jewel-box, we reclaimed the footage to fashion an ample, open plan, U-shaped kitchen in Studio City Hills, hosting a large buffet-eating island.
Set in an inspiring but awkwardly shaped home, this kitchen needed us to work all the angles to achieve the goals of creating a large space enveloped in soothing, calm colors.
